Pimpin Siswa

October 19, 2009

Kursus Pimpin Siswa, a camp which is compulsory for all the 2009 first year APEX students. During the usm orientation week, I have received an offer letter from usm authority to go for kursus pimpin siswa at Cinta Alam Kelimat on August 2009.

This camp is 3 days program. The objective of pimpin siswa is to produce a sustainable student. Just before a day for the camp, usm authorities were giving us a briefing about the camp and distributed the t-shirt and bag for us.

1st day (7th August)

We were gathered at padang kawat in front of D.U.P. After attendance has been taken, we departed from usm around 9am something.

Around 1pm, we reached the site which situated at Perak. The site was not as bad as I think. After us had our lunch, we gathered at field and we were asked 2 marched in a proper way. I did not have a basic skill in marching, so it was quite a tough task for me. After that, each group had to set up their own camp in the jungle. All my group members were ladies so that we took quite a long time to set up the camp. This camp will be our resting place during the 3 days program.

At night, we were having ice-breaking and some games in order for us to mix around and get to know each other well. We played till the late night and finally can back to our camp to sleep.  These whole day activities were really tired me.

8th August

The siren was woke me up. It was already 1am in the midnight. We were forced to wake up for jungle tracking. During the jungle tracking, I can saw a few of fake ghost hidden in the bushes. They tried to frighten us but I stayed calm. This jungle tracking was end around 5am. Wow, this was an unforgettable experience to me.

6am in the morning, we had to wake up to attended a lesson given by the organizer. After that, we had our breakfast. In the morning section, there were some games played among groups. My team never wins a game but we were enjoyed and happy because my team already tried our best.

In the afternoon, we were having cooking section. Each group was given pans and ingredients in order to cook for our lunch meal. My teams members were giving full co-operation during the cooking section. That day my lunch was so delicious that contained rice, fried chicken, curry chicken and vegetables.

At night, each group was given a theme and team members had to act to present the meaning of the theme. My group performed the theme by singing. This activity finished around 12.30am midnight and this time we can had a better sleep till the next morning.

9th August

This day was the last day for the camp. There was a closing ceremony held in a room. They played slide show and gave speeches. After everything has done, we sent back to our campus by buses.

Bamboo Gift

October 18, 2009

I have made a mini musical instrument using bamboo. It is composed of 4 pieces of bamboo and I tied it up to become 2 mini instruments. It can be played by knocking the two outer surfaces of bamboo.

4A Analysis Of HBP Spaces: "A Nook To Inspire"

October 18, 2009

Encik Rusli was issued us project 4A 10 August 2009. For this project, we are asked to find a place around HBP compound. This place should be quiet and yet comfortable to let us relax ourselves. I have chosen a place in front of E48B. Below are my photos showing the activities that I can do there during rest time.

3C Black Box

October 18, 2009

This lecture taught us about accretion and subtraction. Accretion is an increase in size of a design plate by addition of material along a convergent boundary, whereas subtraction is the cutting out of shapes and design.

We also learned about:

-          Ambiguous images: Optical illusion images which are crafted to exploit graphical similarities and other properties.

-          Repetitive design

-          Symmetry and asymmetry

A project was given to us on that day for making 2 cubes with the application of accretion and subtraction. Cube A must have subtraction element whereas cube B must have accretion element. The cube must be 250mm × 250mm × 250mm. These 2 cubes will be joining together side by side, so the final product will be 250mm × 250mm × 500mm.

These 2 cubes seem like 2 dices joining together

2C The Mask

October 18, 2009

Our lecturer was issued the project 2C The Mask to us. In this task, we were required to make a mask that is exactly same with our face.

In the making of the mask, I have prepared some materials.

1.   Tepung ubi kayu

2.   Newspaper

3.   Scissor

4.   Poster colours

First of all, I make the glue by mixing tepung ubi kayu with hot water. I found that the mixture cannot mix well and it was not as sticky as glue. Then I realized that the problem is that hot water was not hot enough. Then I tried for the second time and this time was success to obtain sticky glue. Secondly, I tear the newspaper into small pieces. With the help of my friend, she pasted the pieces of newspaper on my face layer by layer. Until the mask was thick enough, my friend pasted pieces of A4 paper on my face mask as last layer. After 3 hours, the mask was spatially dried.  I took off the mask and let it dried entirely.

On the next day, my mask was dried entirely. I poked the holes for my eyes. Then I started to paint the mask using poster colours. The mask was totally completed after I drew eyebrows and mouth  on my mask.
